DIORAMA 2022 presents

Bleeding Sunsets of the Sundarbans

This is the story of a woman, Kalyani, orphaned before reaching her teens, married before fourteen, mother of four and widowed in her early thirties. She battled abject poverty but was uncompromising in her dignity and did not succumb to pressures or favors. She brought up her children single handedly relying only on her own hard labor and presence of mind. You must read the book to appreciate the subliminal dynamics of power and money and lust and arrogance surrounding her minute to minute in the apparent breathtaking beauty of sea waters and flora and fauna of the islands. The contradictions and paradoxes of life in the remote Sundarbans are baffling and incredible. It is difficult to live here indeed. How could she find even fleeting moments of love and laughter?
